Spravato Treatment

Feeling trapped by treatment-resistant depression (TRD) can be overwhelming, especially when local treatment options mean waiting months. At Lenape Wellness Center, we’re ready to help now, with our REMS-certified Spravato treatment suite and compassionate 24/7 medical care. Call us 24/7 to discuss Spravato treatment.

What Spravato® Esketamine Is

Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray medication specifically designed to treat adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) with acute suicidal ideation or behavior.

Unlike traditional antidepressants, Spravato targets NMDA receptors in the brain, rapidly improving symptoms by influencing glutamate, a critical neurotransmitter involved in mood regulation.

Spravato is:

  • FDA-approved since 2019 for TRD
  • A fast-acting NMDA receptor antagonist
  • Administered under strict medical supervision as part of a restricted Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program

Our REMS-Certified Treatment Suite

We offer Spravato treatments in a serene, private, and REMS-certified suite located on our beautiful golf course property. Our facility provides:

  • Private dosing rooms with comfortable reclining chairs
  • Continuous pulse-oximetry and vital-sign monitoring throughout the mandatory two-hour post-dose observation
  • On-site psychiatric nurse practitioners or psychiatrists who supervise every treatment and ensure your safety
  • Calming, tranquil views of the golf course designed to promote relaxation and support recovery

Typical Dosing Schedule

Your Spravato treatment integrates seamlessly into our 30-45-day residential mental health program. The typical dosing schedule is as follows:

  1. Weeks 1-4 (Induction): Two sessions per week, usually mornings, allowing ample recovery and integration time during the day.
  2. Weeks 5-8: Maintenance phase reduces to one session per week.
  3. Week 9 onwards: Sessions spaced out every one to two weeks depending on individual response and remission.

Each session includes two hours of post-dose monitoring for safety and comfort.

Safety and Side Effects Management

Spravato is generally safe but requires careful monitoring due to potential side effects. Our protocols rigorously follow REMS guidelines to protect your well-being:

  • Blood pressure checks every 30 minutes to monitor significant increases.
  • Immediate assistance for common side effects, including dizziness, nausea, sedation, and dissociative feelings.
  • Rescue medications readily available to manage any discomfort promptly.

For safety, you should not drive or operate heavy machinery until the day after treatment and a restful night’s sleep.

Who Is Eligible for Spravato at Lenape?

Spravato is suitable for adults who:

  • Have not responded adequately to two or more oral antidepressant treatments
  • Are medically stable
  • Do not have uncontrolled hypertension or aneurysmal vascular disease
  • Do not experience psychosis or have a history of arteriovenous malformations or intracranial hemorrhage

Our admissions team thoroughly reviews medical histories to confirm eligibility, ensuring the safest possible treatment experience.

Integrated Therapy Support

Spravato treatment at Lenape Wellness Center goes beyond medication alone. On treatment days, we thoughtfully pair Spravato administration with complementary therapies to maximize effectiveness and support your healing journey.

This integration includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) sessions, mindfulness exercises for grounding, and weekly medication reviews by our psychiatric nurse practitioner. Our personalized approach ensures comprehensive care, addressing both immediate symptom relief and long-term recovery.
